Land north of Beaver Road is well connected to the local and national highway network with access onto Beaver Road which connects with the A20 London Road to the north. There is a southbound bus lane on the A20 London Road between Hildenborough Close and Palmar Road providing approximately 1km of bus priority into Maidstone. The A20 London Road provides several points of connection with the M20, the closest of which is Junction 5, approximately 1km to the north of the site. A concept map of the access points can be found below
There are informal permissive footpaths within the area and extensive footway and cycleway coverage. Beaver Road and A20 London Road have footways with associated signalised and uncontrolled crossings. Furthermore, to the north of Beaver Road, there is a shared footway/cycleway connecting to the Poppyfields Roundabout along the eastern side of the A20 London Road west towards Aylesford Retail Park. It also extends south from Beaver Road towards Maidstone town centre. As part of the development, we desire to provide additional pedestrian and cycling infrastructure as part of a wider network of paths in the area.
The nearest bus stops are along A20 London Road, approximately 250m walk from the closest point of Land north of Beaver Road. In addition, the Maidstone Park and Ride is located opposite the development on the south side of Beaver Road, providing a direct route into Maidstone town centre and Maidstone West railway station which is approximately 4km away.
The nearest railway station is Barming, approximately 100 metres from the site boundary. Barming railway station provides access to Ashford International via Maidstone and to London Victoria. A picture of Barming station can be found below.
Overall, the proposals will be designed to create new and enhance current opportunities to encourage new residents to use more sustainable forms of transport for journeys such as walking, cycling, using a bus or using a train. There have been pre-application discussions with Kent County Council and Highways England about access to the site.
